Comparative analysis of surgical management in cervical carcinosarcoma and leiomyosarcoma: a dual case study
Cervical carcinosarcoma and leiomyosarcoma are rare and complex malignancies that pose diagnostic and treatment challenges. The rarity of these cancers complicates the development of standardized treatment protocols. This report details two cases of primary sarcomas of the cervix, exhibiting different histological features but similar clinical presentations. Both patients presented with abnormal vaginal bleeding and were treated primarily through surgical interventions. Case 1 involved a 47-year-old diagnosed with leiomyosarcoma following the surgical removal of a cervical mass. Case 2 described a 66-year-old woman diagnosed with cervical carcinosarcoma, managed with comprehensive surgical resection. Both cases underline the critical role of histopathological evaluation in determining the treatment approach. The cases highlight the necessity for advanced diagnostic tools and more extensive research to better understand etiological factors and improve treatment outcomes. The primary surgical approach remains the cornerstone of management for such sarcomas originating from the cervix, emphasizing the need for personalized treatment plans based on detailed pathological assessments.
